Amazon Prime Video to get Netflix-like Smart Downloads feature

19 November 2019 0

Amazon is reportedly working on a new feature called Auto Downloads for Prime Video application. It is a feature that is said to work exactly similar to Netflix's Smart Downloads functionality. It means the app will smartly download new episodes of TV shows so that users don't have to worry about doing the same manually.

It should be noted that Prime Video Auto Downloads feature has been spotted by XDA folks in an APK teardown. The Prime Video app describes the feature as, "The next episode of TV shows you watch on your mobile device is automatically downloaded". This is specifically beneficial for those who prefer to watch new episodes even when on the go. The best part is that it will also auto delete episodes once they have been watched but only if the next episode is downloaded completely.

As and when the feature is released to the public, it will work only with WiFi connection by default unless the user chooses to enable Auto Downloads for cellular connections as well. This makes sense as most users have a limited cellular data plan. The app will further allow users to choose how many episodes should get downloaded and when they should be deleted.

Additionally. the same APK teardown reveals that Amazon has plans to add a Prime Video option to follow top actors. It will allow users to follow their favorite actors and receive an alert whenever their new videos become available on the platform. The app will offer recommendations of actors to follow but users will also be able to do a manual search.
