Oppo's first Oppo Inno Day event was expected to be focused on innovative announcements and it has managed to live up to the same. While we have already reported about Oppo AR glasses, it is time to talk about other products that include an in-display selfie camera smartphone, an Oppo smartwatch, and a 5G hub.
It is a well-known fact that even though notched display smartphones have become a common practice, OEMs have also been busy figuring out how to offer full-display experience without any distractions. This is the reason we started to see phones with pop-up selfie cameras but as it turns out, Oppo has an interesting way of dealing with the situation. It seems to have taken inspiration from in-display fingerprint tech as it has now showcased a smartphone prototype with the in-display selfie camera.
Don't believe us? Have look at the prototype yourself:
As you can see, it is pretty difficult to spot the selfie camera on this prototype unless you are specifically looking for it. Even then, you can notice it only at certain angles which makes this whole approach fascinating. While it is only a prototype, for now, it will interesting to see how this new tech holds up during real-world usage.
Oppo further showcased a 5G hub that has been named the Oppo 5G CPE hub. It is a cylindrical device that will allow users to take benefits of super-fast 5G internet speeds even on non-5G devices like smartphones, tablets, and smart home devices. It will offer SIM card support and will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem. It will be able to connect up to 1,000 devices at the same time but will work only with the sub-6 GHz band.
Lastly, Oppo has confirmed that it has a smartwatch lineup for launch in Q1 2020. This is the only detail it revealed about this upcoming product but as reported by XDA, it is likely to arrive with eSIM functionality. The speculation is based on the statement where Oppo revealed that it has required knowledge for enabling eSIM support.
