OnePlus Concept One teaser shows invisible camera, color-shifting glass

03 January 2020 0

About two weeks ago, OnePlus confirmed that it will be making its CES debut at the upcoming CES 2020. It later revealed that its CES announcement is related to a concept device that it is referring to as OnePlus Concept One. This led tech enthusiasts and OnePlus fans to speculate what the concept device could be but now, it has posted the first official teaser video giving a sneak peek of what is to come.

The OnePlus Concept One teaser video has been shared by OnePlus on Twitter. It is a short video clip that begins with a focus on the signature OnePlus alert slider but with a Golden finish. It foes on to show a curved display panel like the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro but this time around, it appears to be more curved than before.

The clip then shifts to the back panel where OnePlus branding is clearly visible and it is the only thing you can see. But as the concept device shifts to a certain angle, you start to see LED flash along with triple rear cameras making a magical appearance. The video ends with the tagline "Alternate Design, Alternate Future".

As you might have guessed, it is the magical appearance of the camera setup which is the unique and intriguing part of the whole video. OnePlus' caption for the video reads, "We’re bringing the #OnePlusConceptOne to #CES2020, but you don’t have to wait: you can get a sneak peek at it right here, along with its groundbreaking “invisible camera” and color-shifting glass technology."

Now, you might be wondering what exactly is making OnePlus Concept One cameras appear and disappear. Luckily for us, a new Wired article throws some light on the same. It mentions that OnePlus has teamed up with McLaren, a well-known British automobile manufacturer, to make use of the electrochemical glass technology.

The camera setup on the OnePlus concept phone is covered by a special glass that changes its tint when triggered by an electrical signal. It will allow the cameras to become visible whenever the camera app is opened and will make them invisible for all the other times. This is undoubtedly a cool mechanism to look at it and will surely make people turn their heads around.

We will have to wait until the next week to see the mechanism in action and know everything in detail. It should be noted that it is just a concept device. It means it is unlikely to come to the market and even if it does, it will most likely be released in limited quantity with a higher than the usual OnePlus price tag.
