iQOO has officially confirmed that it is ready to enter the Indian smartphone market. It is a brand that was launched by Vivo in China last year and is now working on global expansion. It will begin the journey by launching the first-ever 5G smartphone in India that will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 processor.
The announcement was made by Gagan Arora, Director of Marketing at iQOO, in a conversation with journalists of the country. He revealed that even though iQOO is a Vivo brand, it will operate as an independent company in India. It means despite using Vivo's Noida facility, iQOO smartphones will also be competing with phones launched by Vivo.
A recent report speculated that it may bring one of the existing phones to the country but iQOO has made it clear that it will launch a completely new smartphone. This unnamed Snapdragon 865-powered 5G phone will be made official at an event scheduled for next month. An exact date has not been revealed yet but we should expect an announcement in the coming weeks.
Arora said that the upcoming smartphone will have the "best in class" battery technology. It will have a dedicated feature that the company is hoping will be appreciated by mobile gamers. He added that they are releasing a 5G smartphone in India despite no carrier offering 5G connectivity to ensure that the phone is future-proof. It is not confirmed when we will see the Indian government deploy the 5G network but it should not happen any sooner than the year-end.
