In a significant change in the past quarter, Vivo has emerged as the second-biggest smartphone brand in India. It has surpassed Samsung to grab the second spot for the first time since it started doing business in the country. The new findings have been reported by Counterpoint Research in market research data meant for Q4 2019.
The report mentions that Vivo had a market share of 21% in the past quarter as compared to Samsung's 19%. It saw a huge growth of 132% on a YoY basis i.e. in comparison to Q4 2018 and a 76% YoY growth in 2019. It is added that "successfully pivoting to online and aggressively positioning the S series in the offline segment with new features" helped Vivo climb up the ladder.
Vivo also benefited from the fact that Samsung's market share percentage remained unchanged between Q4 2018 and Q4 2019. The latter further registered a 5% YoY decline in 2019. As for the top spot in India, Xiaomi has continued to be the biggest smartphone brand in India. It captured a 27% market in the last quarter and a growth of 7% on a YoY basis.
The other two spots in the top five belong to Oppo and Realme with a 12% and 8% market share respectively. While Oppo has seen growth as expected, Realme saw impressive growth of 255% in 2019. You can read the complete Counterpoint Research Q4 2019 report by clicking the source link below.
