Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 base variant price hiked in India

Xiaomi has announced a temporary Redmi Note 8 price hike in India. It has increased the price by Rs. 500 which is now applicable to the base variant of the smartphone. It means 4GB/64GB Redmi Note 8 variant will now cost Rs. 10,499 instead of the previous Rs. 9,999 price tag.

It has said that the price has been increased due to supply chain issues it is facing because of the Coronavirus outbreak in China. It is expected that once it is able to fix those issues, it will remove the price bump and start selling the device at its launch price. It has not said anything about any other Xiaomi or Redmi phones seeing similar price bumps in the future.

Here is the official Xiaomi statement on the matter that was shared with Gadgets360:

"The extended shutdown in China is likely to have an impact on our Supply chain and, there is a risk of impact on overall quantum of component supplies. While we are working to explore alternative supply channels for components and raw materials, the immediate impact is that the short supply might cause some negative pressure on prices of these components. This has led to the increase in the price of the product temporarily".

The new Redmi Note 8 pricing has also been listed on Amazon India and Xiaomi's own online store. A separate 91Mobiles report claims that offline retailers have also implemented the new pricing.
