AsteroidOS: An open-source OS that can apparently replace Android Wear

18 January 2016 0

There are a lot of custom ROMs available for Android OS for smartphones and tablets which give you the freedom of experimenting new things and exploring new areas which are generally restricted by stock Android. And now, it appears developers are looking to bring the same level of options and freedom for Android Wear smartwatches.

One such operating system for smartwatches is AsteroidOS which can replace Android Wear on some of the watches. It is an open-source community-driven project and has been demonstrated on the LG G Watch. If you are interested and have the LG G Watch, then you can install it by downloading the package from Github.

However as AsteroidOS is in its initial stage, it is quite obvious to run into various bugs and limited apps. For example, Bluetooth on the watch works partially. But as it is a community-driven project, developers are seeking for help from other developers in making the OS better and expand its compatibility with apps and devices.
