Best smartphones with dual rear cameras | October 2019

21 October 2019 16

Smartphones with dual rear cameras aren’t hard to find these days. Gone are the days when they used to be one of the unique assets of premium phones. They can now be found in every price point; they are now more affordable, reachable, useful and have many forms to quench your thirst of photography. Companies are now more focused on boosting the camera quality of the smartphones and it’s just not about giving you different camera features to play with while you click your moments. It’s much more than that and thanks to the introduction of multiple cameras, smartphones are now real viable camera devices.

The need for camera performance is growing and smartphone manufacturers know the interest of their users. They have been working hard to improve the image quality even in a mid-tier phone and this aim has given rise to adding multiple cameras in the phones.

Best dual-camera phones in every budget

The dual-camera phones not only offer vivid and detailed shots but they also unlock several other features like zoom, portrait or bokeh modes, better HDR and low-light photography. Almost every company has made use of the dual-lens design in their phones and given users a power to show off photography skills from just a smartphone.

Needless to say, dual-camera phones feature two cameras including a primary sensor which works a similar way to a traditional single-camera phone or includes little modification for better photography. Another camera could include different features, like adding clarity, zooming or capturing fancy bokeh shots, or taking wider shots.

For zooming purpose, companies like Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Nokia, and a few others use 2x telephoto lens, and there are also others like Huawei which have made it possible to offer 3x telephoto to capture better images at long focal lengths. Some of the advantages of the dual-lens camera in smartphones are the faster focus, great depth of field, vivid and detailed pictures, and refocus ability.

The phones with two camera lenses on the back are available in plenty. But if we have to choose some or guide you in your purchase, then we would suggest you go through the list available below. You will only find the selected ones here.

Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

Google has finally added two cameras to the rear of its new generation Pixel phones. Until now, Google offered single cameras only but they were powerful with the potential of outdoing others with multiple cameras. Google has now entered the multiple cameras world with its Pixel 4 lineup by offering dual rear cameras. The essence is still the same and that's the computation photography and now with Pixel 4, it has been further improved.

Both Pixel 4 smartphones come with two cameras on the back, one being a 12MP Dual Pixel standard sensor with f/1.7 aperture and the 16MP telephoto sensor as a secondary lens with f/2.4 aperture and up to 2x optical zoom. But in the era where every smartphone manufacturer is providing a wide-angle lens, Google rather chose to offer a telephoto lens.

But alongside preserving the camera quality of Pixel phones and nurturing the legacy further, Pixel 4 also brings some interesting features. One is being the Astrophotography mode that could amaze you with the results. It comes as a part of the improved Night Sight mode, the ability of the camera to click better pictures at night. This Mode takes up to 15 sets of 16-second exposures, to create a 4-minute exposure. The camera setup also includes a learning-based white balance feature that continuously improves color in your pictures, even in an extremely bad light. Dual Exposure Control is another outcome of the perfect computational photography that lets you adjust highlights and shadows before you even take the photo.

OnePlus 7

OnePlus 7 couldn't attain the same attention as its Pro model, but it’s no way inferior in any scenario. The hype and a few new things introduced with the OnePlus 7 Pro might have overshadowed the low-key OnePlus 7 but nothing can steal its thunder. If we have to choose the best Android phones of 2019 then it’s hard not to bring up the OnePlus 7.

Coming with dual rear cameras and top-notch performance, the device doesn’t miss to impress you. It has a OnePlus 6T-like look but it’s upgraded and has the same processor that is available in the OnePlus 7 Pro as well. Even the latest OxygenOS version which is the customized version of Android 9 Pie is nearly identical on both the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The OnePlus 7 has the same main camera as the 7 Pro but lacks the ultra-wide angle and telephoto cameras. It rather has a 5MP depth assist camera that also lets you take the portrait shots. The best point is, the primary camera is as good as the one present on the 7 Pro. It captures detailed and well-exposed shots. The dual cameras on the back also produce better shots in low-light performance and you can also record your videos at 4K 60fps. OnePlus 7 lives up to the success mantra of the company which is giving more at a reasonable price. It may not have gained the same attention as its Pro model but it’s a winner in its price range. Mentioned on the top of our list of best dual rear camera phones, we would highly recommend you to go for OnePlus 7.

I did a bit of research on Bokeh effect and would be very interested in buying a mid range (15 to 20 K inr) phone that can produce this effect.
Does dual lens automatically mean that you can use Bokeh effect/depth sensing?

The Xiaomi Mi 6 stand out to me in this list. The brand is Xiaomi, and the combo of 12MP wide-angle lens and 12MP telephoto lens is the USP of the smartphone. And don't forget the optical zoom.

The Nubia Z17 too should rank in this list of dual rear smartphones. The only thing is that this list is for the month of May and the phone hasn't still released :D :D

The above mentioned phones on the list are below 60 dollars which is not more than 21,000 naira if you are buying from aliexpress. So there is no need including infinix hot 5 there. And hot 5 is not even 40k, its 36k maximum 9Apps VidMate Mobdro
