Nokia coming back with two new smartphones expected in Q4 2016

Nokia is all set to make a comeback into the smartphone market, the Finnish company is looking to be back in the smartphones and tablets business by the end of last quarter of 2016. The new confirmation comes from Nokia China President, Mike Wang; the Finland-based company is looking for a launch of 3 or 4 Android based Nokia-branded devices.

Earlier this year rumors have surfaced on Nokia releasing an Android-based smartphone and there were rumors of alleged specs for the devices as well. The new devices from Nokia will consist of smartphones as well tablets. Last quarter of 2016 looks like the aim of the company to be bringing the new devices, the actual availability of these devices could be in 2017 depending on testing and development.

The two smartphones are expected to come with Snapdragon 820 processor, with the screen sizes of 5.2” and 5.5”, with an all-metal body design. Another rumor regarding the same devices surfaced recently, where it was reported that the upcoming Nokia smartphones will be using graphene as the material for camera sensors.

In 2013, Nokia sold off its phone manufacturing business to Microsoft, in the terms of the deal Nokia was not to use its brand name until the end of 2016. With the agreement coming to an end also Microsoft selling the phone manufacturing, Nokia is looking for a comeback.

This time, however, the company won’t be making its own hardware, instead, the company has done a deal with newly created entity HMD Global which has got the licensing rights to use the Nokia brand on phones. The phones will be the new arrangement will be manufactured and distributed by Foxconn which has also purchased the feature phone business from Microsoft.

Recently Pekka Rantala, ex-CEO of Rovio the company behind popular game Angry Birds, has joined HMD as Cheif Marketing Officer, he has worked with Nokia for 17 years when the company was at the helm of its phone business. Similar to the deal with HMD, earlier Nokia has released an Android tablet Nokia N1 which was manufactured and distributed by Foxconn under license of Nokia brand, the tablet was hugely popular in the market.
