Motorola's current flagships Moto Z and Moto Z Force along with the upper mid-ranger Moto Z Play come with a unique feature. It is the support modular accessories called Moto Mods which are hot swappable and enhance the overall usability of these smartphones. While there are already a few of them available for purchase, Motorola is now aiming for more.
As per a report from CNET, Motorola has committed to release at least 12 new Moto Mods per year. The goal was announced by a Moto executive to a small group of journalists. Even Moto Mods director John Touvannas has made it clear that Motorola wants to push more Moto Mods this year as compared to the last one. It's worth noting that the company counts a year period from April to April.
While the response to Moto Mods has been mixed so far with neither strong praise nor backlash, Motorola has been successful in releasing some cool Moto Mods with the help of partners. The most recent one was a battery pack Moto Mod from Mophie which adds a 3000mAh battery with fast charging support to the connected device. There are also reports of an upcoming Incipio Vehicle Moto Mod that will offer hands-free navigation while the user is driving.
Talking about future Moto Mods, Motorola has already released Moto Mods development kit worldwide so that anyone can try out his hands at making one. It has also partnered with Indiegogo so that interested developers can bring their concept/ideas to reality and raise money for doing the same.
It is true that it will be interesting to see what new and cool Moto Mods we will get to see but it will also be good to see if the newer ones aimed to next Moto flagship will support the current Moto Z series.
