Google Contacts app updated with new icon, Suggestions, and more

12 December 2016 5

Google Contacts app for Android received a new update which bumps up the version to 1.6. The latest Contacts update has arrived after about four months of the 1.5 update and adds a brings significant changes. Most noticeable changes included in the update are new app icon, new Duplicates interface, and some UI tweaks.

With Contacts 1.6 update, Google has renamed the Duplicates screen as Suggestions where it will suggest you changes that you can make to have your contacts cleaner and avoid issues like duplicates. This new interface is accessible the same way Duplicates was on Contacts 1.5 which was to use the hamburger menu. Other than suggesting duplicate contacts, it now looks through your call log to suggest numbers that it think you should add to contacts. As all of these are basically suggestions, you also have the option to accept or reject them.

Other than this, Google has also changed the Import/Export contacts feature interface. Both of these features are now separate entries in the pop-up menu unlike being one entry in previous versions. Google has also changed the app icon which is still circular in shape but there is a change of the color. It now uses the Dark Blue color which you can see in the featured image.

While Google Contacts 1.6 is available via Play Store, you can also grab the APK for manual installation if you don't want to wait for the OTA update.

Now this looks to be a really good feature for the app suggesting us to add some particular numbers in the contacts list. This is good in case we miss any!

Actually, it's very much possible that there can be two entries with a similar name and similar phone number. I guess, you can weed out the ones that you don't want. Or this new feature might help in handling these things.
