Huawei confirms Android Nougat coming to Honor 8 in February [UPD: Starts early from January 16]

Huawei had earlier promised an Android 7.0 Nougat update for their Honor 8 smartphone by February 2017. However, now it seems that the company has already finished up developing the new ROM based on EMUI 5.0, and has decided to start pushing out the update from January 16.


The rollout will be pushed out incrementally, which means it will reach all the Honor 8 devices in Japan in about one month. The update weighs around 1.97GB and will be pushed to unlocked variants of the Honor 8. Do note that the update will roll out in Japan and customers in the States might have to wait until February to receive the Nougat update. The company has before handedly notified the users to back up their personal data and also make sure that the device is atleast charged more than 50-percent before updating to the new OS.

Huawei has sent out information regarding the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its popular Honor 8 smartphone. According to the latest information, the phone will be getting the Android Nougat update in February 2017 along with the new EMUI 5.0.

Honor 8 was announced earlier this year, and the phone came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow running out of the box with EMUI 4.1 on top of it. The company has already been testing the Nougat for the Honor 8 smartphone for quite some time with the help of beta testers.

Along with the general goodies of Android Nougat coming to Honor 8, an interesting thing which surfaced with the beta build for Honor 8 is App Twin. With App Twin turned on users will be able to use two accounts on an app at the same time.

Huawei introduced its EMUI 5.0 with the launch of Mate 9 smartphone, and with the beta testing going on it was a matter of time for Android Nougat update to be released officially. With the Android Nougat update, the phone will be getting the app drawer with a search bar on top, run different profile in parallel. With EMUI 5.0 comes machine learning algorithms which allow for dynamically optimize processing resources by analyzing the user’s behavior over time and prioritizing frequently used apps.

  • EMUI 5.0 comes with improved capabilities and flexibility around security. For example, the user can ensure specific apps stay ultra-secure with such features as App Lock.
  • EMUI 5.0 also features a more intelligent power management system, with a selection of power saving modes so you can manage your device’s battery consumption more easily.
