After unveiling the device back in October, and putting it on sale in Germany and European countries, the Kodak Ektra smartphone is now be sold across the Atlantic. At the CES 2017 event, Kodak announced that the device will be sold in the US and Canada sometime in April for a price of $549.
The company said that they were "overwhelmed with the success" of the camera-centric smartphone in Europe, the reason for bringing it to the North America. The CEO ok Kodak, Jeff Clarke said,
Since it was first unveiled, the KODAK EKTRA Smartphone has generated extraordinary interest from those who appreciate its classic retro design combined with the latest innovations in smartphone photography. Its ability to capture images like a camera but with the ease of a phone has a natural appeal to all photography enthusiasts.
Isaac Julien, an artist and filmmaker who has been working recently with the Kodak Ektra, said,
A camera phone is one of the most useful tools an artist-filmmaker can have. It lets me easily create a visual archive that I constantly refer to and what I need to not only remember the past, but also to go forward. The KODAK EKTRA Smartphone is therefore one of the most exciting products to come out. Not only am I able to capture images with the ease of a phone but remarkably it has all the functions of an advanced camera.
The Kodak Ektra features a 21MP fast focus rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual flash, and support for Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The 13MP front-facing camera has PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. The camera provides a lot of modes including HDR, Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Sport, Night-time, Panorama, and Bokeh. A 'Smart Auto' mode can automatically select the mode and help take best possible image.
As for the hardware, the Kodak Ektra sports a deca-core Helio X20 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, USB Type-C, and a 3000mAh battery with fast charging.
