Sony has officially confirmed that there will be no Android Wear 2.0 upgrade for the Smartwatch 3. While the smartwatch was already excluded in the list of eligible smartwatches released by Google, there were many users who were hoping that there might be some chance. But with it now being official, the fate of the smartwatch has been sealed.
While Sony did not make any formal announcement regarding the update, it is the support page for Smartwatch 3 which clearly mentions that it does not support Android Wear 2.0 or higher.
As you would expect, Sony fans are not happy with the decision of not upgrading to Android Wear 2.0. One of the fans has even started an online petition urging Sony and Google to release the upgrade for the smartwatch. While the petition currently has more than 1500 signatures and a goal of 2500 signatures, the probability of Sony changing its mind is quite low.
Android Wear 2.0 was officially launched by Google last week alongside the LG Watch Style and Sport smartwatches. It is the biggest ever upgrade for Android Wear, the OS meant for smartwatches. It brings various cool features like Google Assistant, standalone apps, inbuilt Play Store, and Android Pay.
