04 April 2017 0

The first Quarter of 2017 ended on high with the announcement of Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. During the first quarter of the year, we have seen a number of flagship smartphones from LG, Samsung, Huawei, Sony, and Asus. With each new flagships, the companies tried to bring something luring to attract customers.

As expected the South Korean giant unveiled two Galaxy S flagships in Q1 of the year. However this year marks a number of changes and first of all is that both the variants are featuring dual-Edge display. So far the second variant was discriminated on the basis of dual Edge and standard display, however, that's not the case now. Samsung brought a completely revamped Galaxy S8 lineup flagships.

We recently put the latest Galaxy S8 lineup head to head against iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The Galaxy S8 and LG G6 bringing high screen-to-body ratio, we compared them as well. The Chinese giant Huawei unveiled a couple of flagship at MWC 2017, the company ended last year on the high note as their P9 lineup becomes the first lineup whose units shipped more than 10 million.

The latest P10 and P10 lineup are bringing the same premium look with the full metal body like last year P9 lineup. We recently compared the Galaxy S8 against Huawei's standard flagship P10. Today we are going to compare the Galaxy S8 Plus against the Huawei's P10 Plus. Both plus variants are top of the line flagships from respective companies. So if you are looking to grab a flagship smartphone with the larger display, these two smartphones are pretty much capable of being one of them.

No doubt, the P10 resolves all major issues what standard P10 was criticized for, this full metal bodied flagship is currently the best smartphone from Huawei. On the other, the South Korean giant recently unveiled their top of the line flagships Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. It is important to check out whether the Huawei P10 Plus will be able to bear the assault from Galaxy S8 Plus or not. Let's check out the key main difference between the design of both smartphones.

One of the areas where Huawei P10 Plus can be easily knock down is its design which is not that much appealing as opposed to other recently announced flagships. The design of P10 Plus is not head turner but Huawei compensated by releasing ravishing blue and dazzling green variants which look quite attractive. Still, it seems like Huawei designers took inspiration from latest Apple iPhone 7 Plus. However, the device still looks a premium slab with dual cameras on the rear side. The fingerprint scanner on P10 Plus is on the front facing side.

Despite all this Huawei P10 Plus design doesn't produce much excitement, On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 is packed with stunning metal and glass sandwich design. Without any doubt, it is one of the most luring smartphones we ever saw from Samsung or any other smartphone manufacturer. This year Huawei not only reduces the top and bottom bezels but also ditches the physical buttons as well.

Samsung embedded the fingerprint scanner on the rear side alongside the rear camera modules. Both the P10 Plus and S8 Plus has 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output via headphones. The S8 sides and back designing aren't much changed from last year Galaxy S flagships but the front facing side is completely revamped.

The best thing is both smartphones of this year are packed with the industry best Quad HD displays. So both produces crisp displays, colors saturation is also pretty amazing. Although both are Quad HD but there are few differences amongst them. The Galaxy S8 screen to body aspect ratio is 18.5: 9 as opposed to traditional 16:9. This means the device is taller while retaining the similar wider body.

The Galaxy S8 Plus Super AMOLED display is 6.2-inches, despite having such larger display it is only .5mm wider than last year Galaxy S7 Edge. The difference between standard GS8 and Plus variant is not massive this time but instead, the difference is only 0.4-inches. Huawei opted for the traditional flat LCD display panel of 5.5-inches.

The display is pretty bright, perfect viewing angles, however being an LCD panel it's deep blacks are not as good as Samsung's OLED panels. The Galaxy S8 Plus supports HDR content which means the user can enjoy similar crisp video quality like TV. It is Samsung's first smartphone to have HDR support on board.

Both the smartphones manufacturers opted a different approach as far as cameras are a concern, the P10 Plus is packed with dual camera lens whereas the GS8 Plus has the single camera module. The P10 Plus primary rear camera is 12MP sensor while the second sensor is monochrome with the 20MP lens. The P10 Plus monochrome sensor provides amazing black and white results but it also brings some pretty good tricks.

For instance, the visual quality of image won't be affected even up to 2X zoom. The user can also snap amazing portraits with blurred backgrounds. Both the sensors are Leica Certified and results are exceptional. Every shot is detailed with good colors combination. In standard images, both the devices are pretty much on par but Galaxy S8 Plus camera might end up slightly better as it is the same sensor like last year Galaxy S7.

The Galaxy S8 rear primary snapper is 12MP with f/1.7 aperture. On the other hand, P10 Plus snapper aperture size is f/1.8. On shutter mode, the Galaxy S8 Plus capture three images which merge and results into one image with stunning results. On the GS8 Plus, users won't getting top-notch zoom or depth of field results. The Galaxy S8 Plus will perform pretty amazing even in low-light conditions. Up front the camera sensor on both devices is 8MP.

Hardware specs

We can claim that performance results of both the smartphones will end up neck to neck. The normal users won't find any difference in daily usage performance of both the devices. The P10 Plus is powered up by Kirin 960 SoC with 6GB of RAM. It can handle multi-tasking much better than 4GB RAM powered P10.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 Plus is running on Octa-core Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC/ Exynos 8895 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB built-in internal memory. The internal storage of both the smartphones can be expanded up to 256GB using external MicroSD card. Both the smartphones are without any doubt one of the fastest Android flagship smartphones in the market.

The Galaxy S8 is running on Android Nougat with TouchWiz UI whereas the P10 Plus is also on Nougat with EMUI layer over stock Android OS. The P10 Plus is featuring a 3,750mAH battery whereas the Galaxy S8 Plus is slightly smaller at 3,500mAh. The Galaxy S8 Plus US variant supports Wireless charging.
