Honor 8 Pro vs Huawei P10 : Let's investigate their genotypes

13 April 2017 0

The giant smartphone manufacturer Samsung and Apple are ruling the smartphone market for over a decade and still, it's not an easy task to compete against them. However, that doesn't mean the smartphone buyers only consider these two companies while making a purchase of the new smartphone. In last few years number of Chinese smartphone manufacturers join the race and bringing decent hardware at a pocket-friendly price tag and surely Huawei is amongst those manufacturers. In last few years, Huawei smartphones huge success brought them the status of number one manufacturer in China and world number three smartphone producer.

The company might not be as popular as Samsung and Apple in Europe and USA but they have the prominent share in Asian markets. Recently at MWC 2017, the company showcase their latest top of the line flagship P10 and P10 Plus. The company didn't wait longer and unveil an Honor branded top of the line device Honor 8 Pro. As expected, the device is successor device of last year Honor 8 which brings enhancements in almost every department.

All three devices announced by Huawei in a span of a week are great and all are attracting customers of different niche. However, as the hardware specs are similar it isn't an easy task to decide which device is better. To help out our readers we will compare the Honor 8 Pro against the latest flagship P10. Let's start with the design as it is the first aspect which buyers consider while purchasing the device.

The Honor 8 Pro is featuring a solid aluminum chassis which looks quite premium. It is replacing the glass cover of predecessor which means it won't stick users fingerprints. The Honor 8 slim aluminum chassis and sleek body give it an iPhone look which is not a bad thing as iPhone design is loved by a huge Apple fan base. The Honor 8 Pro thickest point is just 6.97mm. The slim profile is always welcomed by customers. The Honor 8 Pro is available in Gold, black, and navy blue colors.

The design of Huawei P10 is not much changed from Honor 8 Pro but the main difference is Pro variant edges are more round and also it is overall a large device considering its display is 5.7-inches. The Honor 8 and P10 both has dual rear cameras but the Honor 8 Pro doesn't have the physical button on the front facing side but P10 has a physical button which has embedded fingerprint scanner. On the Honor 8 Pro, the fingerprint scanner is on the rear side in the center below the rear cameras.

The P10 dimensions are 145.3 x 69.3 x 6.98mm and weight 145g only whereas the Honor 8 Pro dimensions are 157 x 77.5 x 7 mm and it weighs 184g. If we put both devices side by side, the Honor 8 Pro looks more attractive because of its matte finish. The P10 has added advantage as it is available in more color options which could be plus point in many customers eye.

As far as display is a concern both the devices are of different categories. The P10 is smaller amongst the two with a 5.1-inches IPS LCD display. The P10 screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. On the other hand, the Honor 8 Pro is featuring a larger IPS LCD display of 5.7-inches with Quad HD screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.

Although the P10 display is not as sharper as Honor 8 Pro but still its is impressive. The P10 pixel density is above 400 despite having Full HD display whereas the Honor 8 Pro pixels density is 513 thanks to its Quad HD panel. Now as far as large display is a concern, it is not a matter of personal liking as not everyone is looking for a large display smartphone but instead, still, most of the customers do prefer to stick with the standard size.

Both the devices are featuring top of the line hardware as both are currently the best offering from respective companies. Both are powered up by Huawei's own built Kirin 960 SoC under the hood. The difference is RAM on board. The P10 SoC is accompanied by 4GB of RAM whereas on the Honor 8 Pro the chipset has 6GB of RAM. Both are running on Android Nougat 7.0 as OS.

The internal storage option in P10 is 32GB and 64GB whereas the Honor 8 Pro standard variant has 64GB internal storage. However, both devices memory can be expanded up to 256GB using external MicroSD card which is more than enough for normal users. Both the smartphones don't have dedicated MicroSD card slot but instead, it is a hybrid slot which can be either used for expanding memory or second SIM card. Let's check out both the specs of the device more details in the tabular form below.

The cameras are one area where Honor 8 pro didn't bring up gradation from predecessor Honor 8. The Honor 8 Pro is also featuring the same 12MP dual sensor. One of the sensors is RGB lens whereas the second lens capture images in monochrome. These two sensors jointly produce great results. These sensors can capture 2160p videos at 30fps. Up front, the camera lens is of 8MP with F/2.0 aperture.

The P10 is the winner in this department, It also has dual rear cameras but these sensors are Leica certified. One of the sensors is 20MP whereas the second sensor is 12MP. These sensors perform better as opposed to Honor 8 Pro even in low-light conditions whereas the Honor 8 Pro quality suffers in low-light conditions. The front facing selfie-centric camera is 8MP.

The Honor 8 Pro is packed with a gigantic 4,000mAH battery cell which is large enough to power up a quad HD 5.7-inches display. It also supports fast charging tech which means it won't be the difficult task to charge the gigantic battery. As being a small device the P10 has 3,200mAh battery. Despite being the smaller it is enough to survive a day on normal usage without the charge.

The Honor 8 Pro is announced for the European and UK customers. It will be released on April 20th at a price tag of £474.99 for the Uk customers whereas European customers will have to pay €549. The price is near $580 for international customers but it is quite unfortunate that Huawei has yet to reveal their plans regarding Honor 8 Pro release in the US as the device is so far not available for the US customers. On the other hand, the P10 is slightly expensive as it costs £600 in the UK whereas the price tag is $750 for the international customers. The P10 is already announced for the US customers.

Despite the fact, most of the aspects of Honor 8 Pro are better as opposed to Huawei's flagship P10 but still the latter cost nearly $170 more. This for sure will prompt the users to grab the Honor 8 Pro instead of standard flagship P10. You can easily prefer Honor 8 Pro for its superb design, top of the line hardware, great cameras and above all low price tag as compared to most of the flagships available in the market.

It won't be an easy task to resist Honor 8 Pro. However, for the US customers, the option is restricted to P10 only. There are many buyers who prefer small display devices, in that case, P10 is way more compact than Pro device.
