Google has announced that YouTube Kids app is now natively available for smart TVs. It means your kids can now enjoy their favorite content on the bigger screen as well instead of being limited to smartphones and tablets. This change also eliminates the reliance on casting feature for watching videos on TV.
At the moment, YouTube Kids app will be made available on Samsung smart TVs (2013-2017) and Blu-ray players through the Samsung App Store, LG webOS TVs (2015-2017) through the LG content store, and Sony smart TVs (2016-2017) except for Android TVs. We can surely expect more devices to join the list in the future.
For uninitiated ones, it is a YouTube app from Google and is dedicated to kids. It features selected educational and entertainment content which is deemed appropriate for kids. The app makes use of algorithms for filtering videos but parents also have the option for flagging any video which they think should not be on the app. It is basically aimed at preventing kids from stumbling upon any video which might not be appropriate or far more mature for them.
Other than announcing the update, it further revealed some data about app's usage. Google said that YouTube Kids has over 8 million daily active users with over 30 billion views. It seems like the app is doing pretty good and has managed to gather a good number of regular users so far.
