Xiaomi is currently busy celebrating the 7th anniversary of its custom Android skin named MIUI. It turned seven years old yesterday which was the day MIUI debuted exactly seven years ago. It is currently one of the most widely used custom Android skins with millions of users worldwide. But like every other popular ROM, it has gone through a lot of changes which has made it look and work the way it does today. This is the reason Xiaomi has now given us a look at the journey of MIUI icons evolution over all these years.
In the images below, you can notice that MIUI came with 3D-like app icons for the first three iterations. While there were some slight changes, the overall design language was quite similar to 3D design approach and rounder corners. But it was the release of MIUI V3 which was a significant step in the direction for both Xiaomi and MIUI as it paved the way for it to reach where it is now. It saw the debut of MIUI themes which have now become an integral part of the Android skin among Mi fans.
With the release of MIUI V4, Xiaomi started the shift towards flatter app icon design which looked a lot cleaner and sleeker than previous versions. But with MIUI 6, the design team began to focus on making icons look more colorful and use shapes which would instantly make them recognizable to the user.
You can have a look at remaining MIUI versions' app icons design in the slideshow below and share your thoughts with us in the comments section.

Once in a while it's great to see these types of articles to see the evolution. It's a visual feast!
Right. The types of icons that have now changed like this over the years look a lot more sophisticated and attractive.
That's because the programing languages are dishing out quality graphics and the improvement in the display properties too.
