Google Maps update relocates layer modes and adds videos tab

26 September 2017 0

Google Maps is one of those Android apps which keep receiving updates every now and then. Some of these updates add or remove features or simply relocate options from one place to another. It is time for a new Google Maps update which not only brings a new feature but also changes the position of one of the existing ones.

To start with the new feature, the Maps app now has a dedicated videos tab which shows you a collection of videos related to a particular place. These videos are shared by Google's Local Guide members who started to take part in this feature last month. This feature is basically an extension of existing photos feature and will help users get a better idea of an unknown place.

The next major change in the Google Maps app is that the layers mode has now been moved to fast action button (FAB) from its previous placement of left sidebar. This FAB is present on the top right corner which can be tapped anytime to get access to all available layer modes. You can then tap on the preferred layer mode to enable it and see it on the map.

Other than this, Google has now added the option for disabling notifications for Questions about your area feature. It basically means that now you have a little better control over notifications. And for those who are lucky enough to be on Android Oreo, the app brings new notification channels. These channels offer you more freedom over what kind of notifications you would like to have.
