Nomura analysts state that Apple would launch three new iPhone models in 2018. The prediction is in line with the forecasts made by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The renowned Apple analyst has also stated that Apple has line up three new iPhone models for next year.
Analysts believe that Apple will launch two iPhones with OLED screens in 2018, along with one with the LCD screen. The Apple iPhone X was the first smartphone by Apple to come with an OLED display.
The report states that one of the new Apple flagship devices which will be released in 2018, will have an OLED display of 5.8 inch, which is the same as the iPhone X. The second OLED model will have a bigger 6.5-inch display.
These new phones will have the same features as the current iPhone X and will come with Apple's True Depth camera system used for facial recognition. In addition, Apple may also launch a new iPhone with 512GB of storage. The third device will have an LCD screen but similar specifications as the iPhone X.
"We think the focus for 2H18F new iPhones is to optimize those technologies in terms of performance and costs and adopt a broader iPhone portfolio, rather than bring in more significant technology changes into new iPhones," the analysts wrote.
"We think the specs of 6.5” OLED and 5.8” OLED new iPhones are mostly the same as those on iPhone X (5.8” OLED), except for the screen size and the support of dual physical SIM cards of the 6.5” iPhone," the analysts continued.
The analysts warned, "Please note that all the potential spec changes and supply chain dynamics for 2H18F new iPhones in this report are observations from our supply chain surveys, together with our own inferences, and they are subject to change, as the new iPhone specs and suppliers will not be finalised before late-1Q or early-2Q18F."
