International Data Corporation (IDC) is back with yet another report detailing where the trajectory of wearables went in the fourth quarter of 2017 (4Q17). According to the report, wearables market continued to grow in the aforementioned quarter and Apple, Fitbit, and Xiaomi clinched the first three positions.
To be specific, total volumes for the quarter reached 37.9 million units, up 7.7% from the 35.2 million units shipped in the same quarter a year ago.
It’s Apple that managed to pull the interests of the smartwatch lovers and gained the top position. According to IDC, the users’ tastes have become more sophisticated over the past several quarters. Apple spent many quarters close behind Fitbit or Xiaomi but the company managed to catch the attention and thus outpaced two companies that were going neck to neck with it.
According to IDC report, the Watch Series 3 is earning a warm reception among end users. The report tells that the Apple Watch shipments totaled 8 million units worldwide last quarter. Thus this even made the wearable device the best selling device during this period.
By comparison, Fitbit reported sales of 5.4 million wearables last quarter, while Xiaomi shipped 4.9 million units over that time, according to IDC.
After Xiaomi, Garmin and Huawei take the 4th and 5th position in the leadership of wearables in Q4 2017.
Jitesh Ubrani senior research analyst for IDC Mobile Device Trackers,
"Combined with the potential to sell added software and services, wearables are proving to be an increasingly lucrative market for brands and service providers."
