Earlier this year, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple is expected to introduce a cheaper MacBook Air sometime during the second quarter of 2018, and now a second report has come which backs Kuo's claims stating that device will be launched starting at $799 or $899.
DigiTimes has stated that Apple is planning to launch a new 13.3-inch "entry-level MacBook" in the second quarter of the year which is in time with the WWDC event in June. DigiTimes calls the notebook a "MacBook," however it is unclear whether the notebook is MacBook or MacBook Air line.
The report states that MacBook' will have a 12-inch size with Retina Display and may be a part of the refreshed MacBook Air family. The entry-level machines are expected to be priced similarly to the current line of MacBook Air which starts at $999.
The report states,“The 13.3-inch a-Si panels for the new notebook feature the same resolution as Apple's 13.3-inch MacBook Pro at 2,560 by 1,600.
LG Display will begin supplying the panel in April with the new MacBook scheduled to enter mass production at the end of May or the beginning of June”.
Apple hopes to sell six million units of the new notebook in the year, though analysts believe that the company will be able to sell four million units due to its pricing.
