Apple Airpods continue to see strong sales, while HomePod sales remain underwhelming, according to a report by Barclays. The company revealed the report after meeting with companies within Apple's supply chain.
Barclays says that Apple HomePod sales have been "underwhelming". The Cupertino giant had estimated selling 6-7 million units, however, it's unclear how many were they actually able to sell.
In contrast, Barclay’s says that Apple AirPods will continue to see excellent demand, and shipments are likely to approach 30 million units in 2018, which is similar to what KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's had stated. Air pods are seeing a huge number of orders and have an estimated delivery of 12 to 13 days in the United States and several other countries. Since December, the wireless earphones have been in short supply.
The long shipping estimates for AirPods suggests that Apple is still having difficulty in manufacturing the wireless earphones, and us unable to keep up with strong demand.
Apple CEO Tim Cook had revealed that the company's total revenue from wearables was up almost 70% year over year during its last earnings call. The company’s "Other Products" category which includes AirPods, Apple TV, and Apple Watch has earned a record $5.5 billion in revenue, last quarter.
Apple is also planning to release a wireless charging case for AirPods soon. The company is also planning to new AirPods with "Hey Siri" functionality next year, and subsequently a pair with water resistance as well. Barclays has also stated that Apple will release a pair of new AirPods in early 2019 which will have a noise cancelling feature. Barclay notes that there will be other design changes as well as improvements as well from the current Airpods models.
