Apple Maps now includes data from Ito World which would give users information about 176 bike share systems in 179 cities across the world. Users can simply type ‘bike sharing’ in the search bar or the name of the service they want to use, to find the nearest one around them.
The updated Apple Maps, however, doesn't include how many bikes are available at each sharing station, or any information about the open parking spaces. This information could also be added in the future making it much easier for regular users. However, the new feature will be useful for bikers traveling to a new town and who wish to explore a city via bikes.
“Ito World has worked with dozens of companies to license and normalize bike-sharing data,” states the report. “This way, Apple only has to integrate one data model to support hundreds of bike-sharing services.” You currently get just the address, name and contact information for the nearest service.
Apple has been adding more services to Apple Maps in a bid to compete with Google Maps and has added support for airports and malls, public transit, lane guidance, and much more.
