AirPower wireless charging mat to launch in March: Report

14 March 2018 2

Apple had announced the AirPower mat for wirelessly charging its iPhones as well as other gadgets in September along with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X. Apple has stated at the time that the Airpower mat will hit the shelves sometime in 2018.

Now reports have come up that suggests that Apple is planning to launch new Airpods with the Airpower mat later this month. The charging mat will support the company’s latest flagship models, the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, iPhone X, the Apple Watch Series 3, and the new AirPods case. A new report states that the Apple’s “charging pad” will launch “by the end of March.”

The reports add that the AirPower mat will be capable of charging up to 3 devices simultaneously. The mat will have a maximum output of 29W which is enough to provide two iPhones with the current limit of 7.5W.

It is believed that the Cupertino giant may ship the 29W USB-C power brick in the box that would increase the price AirPower mat substantially. The price of USB-C to lightning cable, along with AirPower mat is going to be $80 at least. Earlier reports had suggested that the AirPower mat could be priced anywhere between $150-$200 in the U.S.

Till now, Apple has not announced the availability of the Airpower mat. So we will have to wait and see if the product is launched at a March event alongside other new products or would just show up quietly on the company’s online store. We will keep you posted!
