WhatsApp for iOS now supports media preview in notifications

05 September 2018 3

After a few months of testing, WhatsApp for iOS is now receiving the ability to show media preview in notifications. This new feature works for both images and animated GIFs as long as the iPhone is running on iOS 10 or higher. The feature is aimed at avoiding the need for opening the app every time to check what is the new media message.

WhatsApp said that the media previews can be seen by using the 3D Touch (tap and hold) in the notification on those devices which offer this functionality. If 3D Touch is not working or you don't want to use it, you can also swipe left on the notification and then tap "View" to see the media preview.

It is worth noting that the media preview will show notifications blurred if you have disabled the media auto-download functionality. In such a situation, a user will either need to enable auto-downloading or simply tap on the media preview to start the downloading manually for each of the notifications.

While the feature rollout has started, there are reports that the feature is not working properly for some of the users who have received it. This issue is what WhatsApp is said to be aware of and working on fixing the same. A fix for the same is expected to arrive in next few days in the form of a server-side change.

Additionally, WhatsApp has also released the suspicious link detection feature for iOS features. It is a feature which was made available for Android users previously. As the name suggests, it will analyze the links received by you and alert you whenever it would fill that the link is a malicious one. You will obviously be able to continue visiting the link if you would like to despite receiving the alert.
