Netflix Smart Downloads feature comes to its iOS app

08 February 2019 4

Netflix last year added a feature called Smart Downloads that allowed to download video content from the platform to the Android smartphone. This feature also ensured that while the new episode is being downloaded, it would delete the previously downloaded episode thus saving space on the device.

Prior to that, users had to manually delete old episodes in order to recover storage space on their devices. However, the Smart Downloads Feature solved the problem for Android users though iPhone users still had to manually delete old video content every time, until now. Now, with the latest update, Netflix has introduced Smart Downloads for both iPhones and iPads.

“Today, we are excited to introduce Smart Downloads. Now, when you finish watching a downloaded episode, Smart Downloads will delete it, and then automatically download the next episode. You watch, we do the work. We also want to emphasize that giving consumers more control over their entertainment experience is at the heart of everything we do, and members can choose when they want to use Smart Downloads.” Cameron Johnson, Director of Product Innovation, Netflix mentioned in an official post.

To activate the feature, users need to tap on the download icon in the "downloads" section and select smart downloads from the top of the menu. It can be alternatively activated by turning on the option under the downloads heading under the settings menu.
