Apple has been long rumored to release a successor to original AirPods this year. These are speculated to be called AirPod 2 with a design similar to the predecessor but with a bunch of new features. A new report has surfaced online (via MySmartPrice) claiming to reveal a few more details related to AirPods 2.
The report claims that the overall AirPod 2 appearance will be the same as the first version for the most part. It means it will be not possible to differentiate the two in the first look. But the newer variants are said to feature a special kind of coating for better gripping. This particular coating is said to be the same one which Google uses on Pixel smartphones. It should help in reducing the chances of the expensive wireless earphones falling off ears. The coating will also be seen on the AirPods 2 charging case.
Additionally, Apple is said to pack AirPods 2 with even more sensors than the original offering. The exact working of these sensors is unknown but these could be related to health features like heart rate monitoring. The AirPods 2 are claimed to cost around $200 with an option to choose from Black and White colors. If this is true, Black will be a new color option which many Apple fans have been asking for.
The report further talks about the AirPower release timeline. It corroborates previous reports that we might see the official Apple wireless charging mat sometime in Spring 2019. It is expected to thicker than what was expected previously which is likely to be because of the use of the 8-7-7 coil configuration. There will also be some "exclusive features" for AirPower but these will not be available until iOS 13 releases. Apple is said to price AirPower around $150 with commercial shooting currently said to be under works.
