iPhone XS delivers 26 percent faster 4G speeds than predecessors

15 February 2019 4

While iPhone XS became one of the fastest iOS devices as per a recently held benchmarking scores by AnTuTu for Jan 2019, the device has been a top performer for the Cupertino tech giant in different departments. Now in a recently held test in regards to internet speeds, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max stood 26 percent faster than all the iPhones launched between 2015 and 2017. The test was performed on multiple U.S telecom carriers during the time frame of 26th October to 24th January.

iPhone XS Max secured the best speeds of 21.7 megabits per second while iPhone XS brought in 20.5mbps. Interestingly, iPhone XR was able to achieve 17.6mbps in contrast to 18.5mbps brought in by iPhone X that got launched a year ago.

Even though there is a difference between these speeds, the overall performance doesn’t have a notable difference in everyday life, especially knowing how the telecom bandwidth has been the same since iPhone 6s and iPhone X. While 5G technology is around the corner, its quite unlikely for Apple to adopt it right away and chances are that it would not do before 2020.

Considering how Apple’s chip manufacturer Intel might not have their 5G compatible modem ready before next year so the trend would continue. OpenSign that carried on this research speculates that people might lose their interest in upgrading considering the ‘data speed’ perspective.

Have you ever upgraded your smartphone with data speeds being the primary reason?

Practically speaking, the difference between 21.7 megabits per second and 20.5mbps per second is negligible. And we don't keep counting like this in our everyday lives, right?

Well, Apple has already declared that they won't be bringing out their 5G phone this year. So, 2020 is the only time we see something like a 5G iPhone.
