Apple has released iOS 12.2 stable version update for all the eligible iPhone and iPad devices. This new version was under beta testing for the last two months where testers received a total of six beta builds. It is a significant update with a host of changes including support for Apple News+ magazine subscription service and recently unveiled AirPods (2nd generation) wireless earphones.
In the official changelog, Apple mentions that Siri is now capable of playing videos from a user's iOS device to Apple TV which should also be running the latest OS. It means users can now make use of Siri voice commands to play desired content and control the playback. There are also four new Animoji characters including owl, boar, giraffe, and shark which will be available on devices with Animoji support. It is worth mentioning that Apple News+ is currently available only in the United States and Canada.
The team has further made improvements to AirPlay integration, Apple Pay, Apple Music, Screen Time, and Safari user experience. There are also a lot of bug fixes and under the hood changes for a smoother and better performance. It is an over the air update which means you should receive an update notification automatically. If you have not, you can also visit Settings -> General -> Software Update for a manual check.
The size of the update is slightly hefty (about 700MB to 850MB) depending on the particular device you wish to download the update on. This is the reason it is advised to connect to a WiFi connection and then install the same.
