2019 iPhones will have better rear and selfie cameras: Report

22 April 2019 4

Apple is reportedly working on three new iPhones for 2019. According to a new report, Apple is planning to make a few changes to this year’s new-generation iPhones. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s newest iPhones will have higher resolution selfie cameras.

Apple’s 2018 line-up had 7MP cameras, and the upcoming 2019 line-up will reportedly have 12MP resolution while maintaining the same pixel size. Apart from this, the Cupertino giant could also add a faster lens with a wider aperture for taking better selfies in low-light. The selfie camera’s lenses could also see a black coating which will help them blend into the display’s exterior easily so that it doesn’t stand out.

All iPhone models may also get rear camera updates as well. The successor to the iPhone XR will add a secondary zoom camera to compliment the wide one. Kuo also predicts that the main (wide) camera will feature larger pixels for better low-light performance. The premium successors to the iPhone XS and XS Max may get a third camera. The third camera may be ultrawide which has been seen among the phones launched in the last few months.

The Cupertino giant is behind other smartphone makers due to the low-light performance of its cameras. Flagship devices like the Pixel 3, Huawei P30 Pro, as well as a number of other Chinese smartphone makers have started offering the feature. Apple which has been losing its market share in India as well as China to Chinese smartphone makers needs to have an edge with its upcoming line-up.

I've wondered why Apple doesn't increase the camera resolution? Even the last year's iPhones have only 7MP (the iPhone X has 12MP), whereas there's nothing less than 48MP in Android phones.
