Apple is reportedly working on starting India-made iPhone XR and iPhone XS sales from the next month. The report is coming from Reuters citing an unnamed source as all these proceedings are said to be going on privately. Both these models are being assembled by Foxconn's Indian plant in the state of Chennai.
All the details related to the India-made release of these 2018 iPhone models are under covers as there are still some approvals pending. This is the reason it is expected these models should become available in stores sometime in August 2019. It will be the first time Apple will be selling the latest models that have been made in India.
The iPhone 6s was the first iPhone from Apple to be sold under the 'Made in India' tag. It was followed by the iPhone 7 but Apple did not reduce pricing for any of those two models. But on another hand, it is speculated that iPhone XR and iPhone XS should receive a price drop once they start selling in the country.
Apple decided to go for India-made iPhone models with the goal of boosting sales. There are no doubts that iPhones are one of the best smartphones out there but due to expensive pricing, many Indians have not been able to purchase them. But when phones are made within India itself, it would allow Apple to save money spent on import duties which should eventually help in bringing down the selling price.
