Apple made its new iPhone models official at the Special Event on September 10. The new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max look more like incremental upgrades over the last year’s models. Nothing new or in terms of breakthrough was announced during the event. In fact, the Pro models of the new iPhones have nothing ‘pro’ in them. There are some obvious upgrades.
While Apple announced several new features of the new iPhones, there are more on the table to be served. Apple didn’t utter about them on stage but it does mention them on the official site in the presentation slides. One of such features is sharing stuff with other iPhone devices with a directional version of AirDrop coming with iOS 13
The new iPhone models include a U1 chip that Apple didn’t talk about onstage. The “U” in the U1 stands for “ultra-wideband” and it lets you share stuff with other devices with U1 chip. The feature isn’t too small that doesn’t need a mention. From the definition of it, the feature looks quite helpful. In a room with many U1 chip-equipped devices, you’d just need to beam your device at the device you want to share content with and the tech will handle the rest of the task followed by the steps, of course.
According to Apple, the Ultra-Wideband technology brings along an interesting tracking benefit which is improved spatial awareness with the help of which the device would pinpoint a device with U1 chip better. It will find the matches and let you share the files with them.
The feature that looks minor will prove to be a great help. Apple has added a dedicated chip for this work which joins the other family of chips, including the H1 and W1 chips find in Apple’s AirPods.
