It has been at least a couple of years since we first started hearing rumors about a possible iPhone SE successor. There have been various reports and speculations but Apple has offered no official indications that it is working on such a device. But this time around, the renowned researcher and Apple plan tipster Ming-Chi Kuo has made his predictions about the same.
As reported by 9to5Mac, Kuo has predicted that Apple will start selling iPhone SE 2 (expected name but not confirmed) starting sometime in Q1 2020. This new device will join the current-generation iPhone lineup as the most affordable iPhone. It means it will cost even cheaper than the iPhone 11 priced at $699 for the base model.
The iPhone SE 2 is said to feature Apple A13 chipset, 3GB of RAM and iPhone 8-like design. It is expected that most of the hardware specifications will match what Apple offered with iPhone 8. This will be a significant upgrade considering that the original iPhone SE was essentially based on the iPhone 5.
There are speculations that Apple might even stop selling the iPhone 8 lineup altogether once it launches the iPhone SE 2. It suggests that the iPhone SE 2 starting price could be around $400. This kind of pricing is likely to attract people who want to get a newer and faster iPhone but don't want to spend a lot like the iPhone X series or current iPhone 11 lineup. Kuo believes that this kind of offering will be especially appealing to iPhone 6/6s users. He expects Apple to ship 30-40 million units through the 2020 year.
It is worth noting that this new report matches another report that surfaced last month. That report mentioned Apple's iPhone SE successor will have a 4.7-inch display and will arrive in Spring 2020. It also mentioned design similarities related to the iPhone 8 and the addition of the Apple A13 processor.
