Apple starts rolling out macOS Catalina, here's how to download and install it

08 October 2019 0

Apple has started rolling out macOS Catalina to all compatible Mac devices around the world. It is the latest desktop operating system meant for Mac desktops and laptops. It was announced about four months ago and even though iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and watchOS 6 were released over the past few weeks, Mac users had to wait to get all the new features and improvements.

macOS 10.15 Catalina marks the end of iTunes which has now been divided into three individual apps: Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV. The first app will serve all your music streaming needs, the second one is all about podcasts, and the last one will be your destination to stream movies and TV shows. Apple TV is also the app using which you will be able to access Apple TV+ subscription service on your Mac.

The new operating system also brings Apple Arcade game subscription service to the Mac App Store. It originally debuted on iPhones followed by iPads and now, it can be used on Macs as well. It is a service to play paid games and games with in-app purchases by paying a fixed monthly fee instead of paying for each of them separately. It is currently priced at $4.99 per month and also offers family sharing plan. It even supports syncing so that you can start playing on one device and continue on some other device without worrying about losing your progress.

One cool macOS Catalina feature is Sidecar which lets users use their iPads as a secondary display to their Macs. It is aimed at enhancing one's productivity as it also supports Apple Pencil for touch input on the iPad. It works wirelessly as well as via a wired connection where the latter is helpful when you want to keep charging your iPad at the same time.

There are many more macOS Catalina features and improvements that will change the way you have been working on or using your Mac devices. You can check about all of them in detail by clicking the source link below to read the complete Apple announcement. For those who just want to get started with using the new software version, you should receive the update notification automatically. But if you don't for any reason, then you simply need to head over to system settings to manually check for the update.
