That Apple’s MacBook Pro that was rumored to come with a 16-inch display, better keyboard, and improved performance and battery life is actually real as it has finally gone official now. Well, keeping those heavily rumored specifications and features aside, let’s meet the 16-inch MacBook Pro in a formal way.
The new MacBook Pro with a 16-inch display actually replaces the 15-inch MacBook Pro. The new MacBook Pro puts on some weight but this doesn’t make it bulkier. With 4.3 pounds from 4.0 pounds, the notebook feels light. It is now taller, longer, and thicker as well, but doesn’t carry a noticeable difference. Bezels along the top and sides of the display have been trimmed for a slimmer look, though.
The new MacBook Pro features a 16-inch panel with 3,072x1,920 pixels resolution and it is the same Retina display that previous MacBook Pro was featured with. The display also makes use of Apple’s True Tone technology that automatically adjusts the color temperature depending on the ambient light.
The key highlight of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is its Magic Keyboard that replaces the problematic Butterfly keyboard. The new Magic Keyboard features 1mm key travel and a “refined” scissor mechanism, as well as a rubber dome for a springy response.
Apple touts that this is a more comfortable layout than the one present on the previous models. The physical Escape key is back which makes the Touch Bar shorter than its usual size.
Following the criticism it gained due to the ultra-slim butterfly key switches, Apple is reported to be phasing them out completely and the soon may soon be reflected across its products over the next year.
The refreshed MacBook Pro comes with new components that are claimed to deliver up to 80 percent better performance with the help of Intel’s 9th Gen CPU with six or eight cores, up to 64GB RAM and up to 8TB storage. The powerful processor is accompanied by a powerful graphics card which is AMD Radeon Pro 500M graphics with up to 8GB of dedicated VRAM and a 100Wh battery.
Like the 15-inch predecessors, the new 16-inch MacBook Pro model features Apple’s Touch Bar, a Touch ID sensor, Force Touch trackpad, and Apple T2 security chip. There are four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) sockets and a headphone jack. There's also Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, and a 720p FaceTime camera.
Battery life is rated at up to 11 hours of wireless Web browsing or video streaming using Apple TV.
The newly-launched 16-inch MacBook Pro is available for purchase right away at $2,399 (for the 2.6GHz six-core Intel Core i7 CPU model) in the US and the step-up model that carries Core i9 processor is tagged at $2,799 price. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is available in Silver and Space Gray color options.
Apple has also announced that the newly redesigned Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR will go on sale in the US in December. The price of Mac Pro starts at $5,999 and Pro Display XDR starts at $4,999.
