Apple's next-gen iPhones are expected to come with a number of major changes including support for 5G connectivity. It seems like the device itself is not the only thing that will see big changes. A new Digitimes report claims that in-box contents will also see a change as Apple is considering bundling AirPods with 2020 iPhones.
The report cites industry sources and mentions that "smartphone vendors including Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi are looking to bundle their new models with TWS earbuds next year.” The TWS is a term used to refer to truely wireless earphones like Apple's AirPods, Samsung Galaxy Buds, and Xiaomi's Mi True Wireless Earphones.
There is no doubt that the claim is exciting for anyone planning to upgrade to new iPhones next year but there are a couple of good reasons to be skeptical. The first one is the source i.e. Digitimes which is known to have a hit and miss track record when it comes to sharing Apple rumors. The second one is the rumor itself as it appears highly unlikely to happen because of the AirPods selling price.
Apple is currently selling AirPods for $149 which is a significant cost, especially considering one unit free with each iPhone shipped around the world. The probability goes down further if it is expected this change will not affect iPhone 12 pricing. These are the reasons we would suggest you wait until we hear more about this new development.
