Apple recently released iOS 13.5.5 beta for iPhones which arrived on iPad as iPadOS 13.5.5 beta. The build has already been investigated for possible upcoming feature clues and one such clue has been spotted by 9to5Mac folks. It seems like Apple is working on offering new iPadOS keyboard shortcuts for brightness adjustment.
The official Apple keyboards for iPad do not feature a dedicated function key row as we find on traditional and many third-party keyboards. This is the reason even when users are typing using the keyboard, they need to interact with the iPadOS notification center or settings for adjusting the brightness. It is not exactly a good user experience which is the reason a dedicated shortcut makes perfect sense.
The report mentions that while references have been found in the source code, they have not been able to enable any of them. It means there is no information on exactly how these shortcuts would work. It is also unknown whether these shortcuts will be customizable in any way.
These shortcuts are non-functional which also makes it harder to predict when these will actually be rolled out. They might arrive with any of the future iOS 13 updates but we will not be surprised if Apple saves it for iOS 14 release later this year.
