The new iPad Air gets a significant design change and iPad Pro-like features. The new iPad Air now features an all-screen design with a larger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display.
It has also received camera upgrades that include a new 12MP rear camera for high-resolution pictures just like the iPad Pro, and a 7MP front-facing FaceTime HD camera. The back camera can also capture 4K videos.
Additionally, this year’s iPad Air also features a Touch ID sensor, which is integrated into the top button to offer a fast and secure way to unlock it.
The new iPad Air is powered by the latest Apple A14 Bionic chip for a massive boost in performance. The new A14 Bionic is based on a 5nm process and packed with 11.8 billion transistors for increased performance and power efficiency. Apple claims the new processor offers a 40% boost in CPU performance, and a new 4-core graphics architecture brings a 30% increase in performance to deliver machine learning capabilities. The new A14 Bionic includes a new 16-core Neural Engine that is capable of performing up to 11 trillion operations per second.
Just like the iPad Pro, the new iPad Air is compatible with Magic Keyboard and its floating design, built-in trackpad, and Apple Pencil, which attaches magnetically to the side for an easy pairing.
Furthermore, the iPad Air now features a USB-C port for up to 5Gbps data transfer. It supports Wi-Fi 6, which offers faster connectivity when coupled with the new A14 Bionic.
The all-new iPad Air comes with the new iPadOS 14 and hence supports all the latest features of the OS that has been specifically designed for iPad models. During the presentation at its “Time flies” event, Apple reiterated the iPadOS 14 features. Some of the features of the iPadOS 14 include a Multi-Touch display, better note-taking capability, new ways to work with handwritten notes with Apple Pencil, and so on. One of the notable features that the iPad Air gets through iPadOS 14 is Scribble to iPad, allowing Apple Pencil users to handwrite directly in any text field.
The all-new iPad Air comes in silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue color options. The new iPad Air will be available starting next month on Apple.com and in the Apple Store app for $599 (Wi-Fi). It will first launch in 30 countries and regions, including the US. The iPad Air with Wi-Fi + Cellular will start at $729. The new iPad Air comes in 64GB and 256GB storage configurations.
