Amidst so many and frequent iPhone leaks, a new rumor on the next year’s iPad models has arrived that suggests what Apple might be planning. The report comes from Korea’s ETNews that cites industry sources and states that Apple will use OLED display panels instead of LCDs in some iPad models starting in 2022.
The report, however, doesn’t specify which iPad models would make the switch from LCD to OLED technology. We can refer to an earlier report where a famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had claimed that iPad Air is likely to get an OLED display.
It should be noted that Apple currently uses OLED display for higher-end iPhones only and the iPad family still uses the LCD technology for the displays. But the industry sources believe this will change from next year and iPad models will also feature the OLED panels. The report further believes that the current suppliers like Samsung and LG will produce the panels for the next year’s iPad models as well.
Apple last upgraded its iPad lineup last month only when it introduced a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro model with the mini-LED panel. This tech offers deeper blacks and improved contrast over the LCD tech.
