Apple at its much-awaited September 15 event unveiled new products, iPhones and iPads. The new set of iPads includes iPad 9th-generation and an iPad mini.
The new iPad gets smaller upgrades over its predecessor. It is now powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic chip that debuted with the iPhone 11 in 2019. Apple claims the new iPad can deliver 20 percent faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine performance over the last iPad model.
It has a new 10.2-inch Retina display with True Tone. Another improvement lies in the camera department where Apple has added a new 12MP ultra-wide camera with the Center Stage feature that made its debut on the iPad Pro. The much larger field of view enables the Center Stage feature, which automatically pans the camera to keep users in view as they move around.
On the front, it includes an 8MP camera. The new iPad (9th-gen) supports Apple Pencil and also has a Touch ID home button. The new model runs on iPadOS 15 and comes in different variants based on connectivity options - Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+4G. Apple bundles 20W USB-C Power Adapter.
Coming to iPad mini, the screen is now larger with an 8.3-inch size and it also features a Liquid Retina display. The new model is powered by the latest A15 Bionic chip that according to Apple can deliver up to 80 percent fast performance than the previous generation. The new iPad mini also gets the new 12MP ultra-wide sensor on the rear panel and has the Center Stage feature. The rear sensor is paired with a True Tone flash to capture images even in low light. Apple claims, with a new ISp in A15 Bionic, users will also see “remarkably” natural-looking photos and Smart HDR, which improves image quality.
The Apple iPad mini features Touch ID and supports Apple Pencil (2nd generation) as well. The Apple Pencil attaches magnetically to the iPad mini for wireless charging and pairing.
The new Apple iPad mini also gets USB-C, 5G, and Wi-Fi 6 support. There is also optional eSIM support to enable Gigabit LTE and 5G connectivity on the go.
The new iPad mini is available to order and will be in stores beginning Friday, September 24. It comes in pink, starlight, purple, and space gray color options. Wi-Fi models of iPad mini are available with a starting price of $499 and Wi-Fi + Cellular models start at $649. It comes in 64GB and 256GB storage configurations.
