Apple started its WWDC 2016 event and firstly announced the watchOS 3. Kevin Lynch, Vice President of technology, Apple, took the stage to tell about the new watchOS which is the version 3 and its incredible features. Apple actually detailed every feature of their latest watchOS, unlike Google who narrated only a few features of their latest Android Wear 2.0 at the recently held I/O conference.
Firstly, Apple gave a brief that they are launching watchOS, tvOS, OS X, iOS today.
"We're going to move each of these platforms forward today, and we'd like to get started with watchOS."
Kevin said that the key feature they kept in mind while developing the WatchOS 3 was performance.
He went on saying, "People who use Apple Watch love it." Their top focus is performance. "Your app should actually respond instantly. And the information you look at should update before you look at it."
While developing watchOS 3, Performance was their primary concern. They updates around the performance to make the watchOS 3 as successful over other smartwatches OS like Android Wear.
Kevin compared the load time of WatchOS 3 to their previous WatchOS 2 by giving a demo. The app launched instantly in the WatchOS 3 platform compared to the watchOS 2.Kevin further said that WatchOS 3 is seven times
faster than the previous version. He further said, "Increased performance allows us to have access to apps anywhere."
Furthermore, the other challenge Apple made, is the familiar design. For the same reason, they have added the Control Center. You just need to swipe up from the bottom. It's actually a mini control center from where you can control everything.
Also, the WatchOS 3 has been optimized in a way so that it could respond to messages quicker.
watchOS 3 is actually a total revamp of the Watch UI which is faster, cleaner than the previous iterations.
Like Google's Android Wear 2.0, Apple has also added a Scribble function to their latest version of watch OS. The new touch keypad allows you to draw a letter on the screen to type. One can either use English or Chinese language to launch any app or contact from the watch.
Apple has also launched a new watch face called as Activity that will keep the track of your activity throughout the day.
Apart from this, Apple has also added another new watch face which is known as Numerals. Activity rings come as a part of the watch face which is pretty interesting to note.
"People are actually switching between faces for different occasions, and we've made that really simple." Just swipe to change faces. Another totally new UI pattern that replaces Glances.
Apple added the top-level interface pattern and ditched the digital touch and glances to be old.
Side Button is now known as the "Dock Button." Apps in the dock are live.
Not only this, but Apple has also added new versions of reminders and Find Friends have been designed for the Watch as well.
Now the main concern is of course battery. We are eager to know how Apple takes care of the battery while doing everything around the apps and performance only.
Earlier, we used to launch the Workout just using the voice, but now, workouts get launched from the face of the watch.
Not even this, Apple has also launched SOS on the Watch. Something we are watching for the very first time. call emergency services, provided that you're in range of phone or connected to Wi-Fi.
Furthermore, the Activity sharing from the watch lets you see and share the workouts and health of the family and friend rings. With the help of smart replies, you can send replies or messages to them directly.
Apple watchOS 3 has something for the wheelchair users as well. Apple demonstrated an array of functions which can be helpful for the Wheelchair and physically unable people as well.
Furthermore, the "Time to stand notifications will now be changed to 'Time to roll."
Apple made various announcements attached to its watchOS 3. Apple also lauunched a new app Breath that helps you to relax your mind and body. Apple said - "Help you quiet your mind, relax your body, and help you deal with everyday stress."
You can also set the notifications to remind you to breathe.
Apple said about the integration of Apple Pay with apps -
"We're adding a number of new APIs."Support for Apple Pay on the Watch. Fitness apps can run in the background, real-time heart rate and location data. Support for SpriteKite and SceneKit, native crown controls (cheers for that!) Speaker audio, inline video, and more."
Apple also announced that watchOS 3 comes with built-in home control support.
