Now you can embed Apple Live Photos to any website using the API

21 April 2017 2

It has been about two years since Apple introduced Live Photos with the launch of iPhone 6s but it is still not as widespread on the internet as many other media formats are. One major reason behind this is that there was no standard way of putting Live Photos on the web except for the integration offered by Tumblr. But it seems like this situation is going to change in near future.

Apple has now announced the availability of LivePhotoKit JS API which will make it possible for anyone to embed Live Photos on any website. This API is based on JavaScript and can be used for playing Live Photos on the web as well as on any iOS and macOS device. The official documentation for the API mentions setup steps on how to use it along with examples for better understanding.

To give you a little idea, here is how it works:

"The JavaScript API presents the player in the form of a DOM element, much like an image or video tag, which can be configured with photo and video resources and other options, and have its playback controlled either programmatically by the consuming developer, or via pre-provided controls by the browsing end-user."

The developers will be able to control the duration for which the video will continue to play. They can even choose whether it will play automatically or only when the user hovers the mouse over "Live" label on the top right corner of the player. With the release of this API, we can hope to see more Live Photos on more websites as we browse the internet.

The Apple iPhone 6s isn't still available. To be notified when it becomse available click here.
