Apple Pay Cash trademark application spotted in EU

01 September 2017 4

Apple Pay is one of the most widely used mobile payment and digital wallet solutions around the world. It has been about three years since the release and it has gone on to expand to a number of countries while partnering with various financial institutions during the journey so far. And now, Apple seems to be all ready to extend it further by releasing a peer-to-peer method of payment in near future.

As reported by Lets Go Digital, Apple has filed a trademark application for the word Apple Pay Cash in European Commission. It means while we can't say anything yet for its availability for the rest of the world (excluding the US for obvious reasons), it is safe to assume that Europe will be getting it sooner than later. The application does not reveal anything specific except for the description, "Computer software used to process mobile payments."

Apple Pay Cash is said to be a service integrated with iMessage on iOS 11 which will make it possible for iOS users to make direct payments to some other person. As for the authenticating the transaction, it is said to make use of Touch ID or facial recognition where the former way of authentication is available on all existing iPhones with a Touch ID.

Once a payment has been received, it will show up on your Apple Pay digital wallet and will look like a virtual gift card. It can then be used for making online or offline purchases like you normally do by using Apple Pay or simply transfer the amount to your bank account.
