Google Maps AR walking now available to Local Guides on level 5+

02 March 2019 1

Tech giant Google is pushing the limits of the technology helping us in everyday lifestyle and this time it's Google Maps that is stepping into the future. Last year, Google Maps went through an extensive redesign, uplifting the app a lot and lastly, we have seen features rolling in like departure and arrival time in addition to integration with Google Assistant. Then we heard about AR technology coming to Google Maps in early February and guess what? That time has finally approached.

Google is testing AR walking navigation in Google Maps which Level 5+ local guides could now test out. As much as it seems futuristic, it’s overwhelming to see how far Google Maps has come in recent years playing a vital role in our everyday life.

Show the streets around you in camera view with augmented reality, Google Maps could help you navigate you through streets in a much neater fashion. While this might not be battery friendly, the feature would surely help people find their ways much easier.

While this feature was supposed to be confidential, practically it’s not anymore especially knowing how everything gets leaked in this era of the internet. If you’re Local Guide with level 5 or above, you could try it out. Let us know with your experience in the comment section below.

I've reached the Local Guides level 3. It's certainly a great feeling to help Google Maps, like adding reviews, answering question, and adding photos, to make a better Maps app.
