Netflix will stop working on these devices starting December 1

07 November 2019 0

Netflix has announced that its app will stop working on certain devices starting December 1st. It has not offered any clear explanation behind this decision except for using the standard "technical limitations" terminology. This suggests that there is some app compatibility issue with the hardware of these older devices.

The complete list is currently unknown but these include select older generation devices from Roku and Samsung. We will mention the name of devices confirmed to be removed from Netflix's device compatibility list below. If your particular device is not mentioned here and is quite old, you should look out for an email or pop-up on your TV from Netflix. It is the company's official way of alerting users so that they can act upon a solution to keep streaming their favorite shows and movies on the platform.

Roku devices ineligible with Netflix from December 1st:

  • Roku 2000C
  • Roku 2050X
  • Roku 2100X
  • Roku HD
  • Roku SD
  • Roku XD
  • Roku XR and any other Roku devices that cannot auto-play the next episode

As for Samsung devices, the list is more unclear at the moment. It is said Samsung TVs from 2010 and 2011 with alphabets "C" and "D" in the model numbers will lose Netflix support from next month. If you own such a TV, there are two ways you can continue using Netflix. The first one is obviously to upgrade your TV to the latest model but the second one will be more affordable if you can't or do not want to spend money on a new purchase. You can use any Netflix compatible third-party device like a streaming dongle and gaming console.

If Netflix adds more brands, new models or any new device type to the list of devices that will become unsupported, we will make sure to keep you updated. But as we said in the beginning, you should keep an eye on any email that you may receive from Netflix.
