Asus has announced two new gaming laptops named Strix Scar II and Hero II with narrow bezels. There are company's offering at delivering nearly bezel-less gaming experience which has started to become more mainstream in recent times. The announcement was made at the Computex 2018 where MSI introduced its own lineup of thin bezels gaming laptops. While Asus' offerings can be used by any gamer, they are specifically aimed at eSports gamers.
The Asus Strix Scar II features a 15.6-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels) with the IPS-type panel. It offers up to 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and 100% sRGB color support. It is powered by the 8th gen Intel Core i5/i7 processors with 8GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or 6GB GeForce GTX 1060 GPU. Both these GPUs are said to be VR ready which means if you are interested in VR gaming, they should serve you well. There is up to 32GB DDR4 RAM with plenty of storage options to choose from. These include 128GB/256GB/512GB SSD, 1TB SSHD or 1TB HDD.
In terms of connectivity, there are two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, one mini DisplayPort, one HDMI 2.0 port, one SD card reader, and one 3.5mm audio jack. There dual speakers with amplifier technology for a louder sound. If interested, it can be purchased with Windows 10 Home or Pro edition.
On another hand, the Asus Hero II is essentially same as the Scar II but with some changes here and there. It has exactly the same display as mentioned above but with a 60Hz option as well. There are same processors and GPU except that it comes only with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. All other features including the amount of RAM, connectivity options, speakers, and Windows options.
Both Asus Strix Scar II and Hero II are up for preorders in the United States via official online Asus store as well as many third-party stores. These have been priced at $1999 (GTX 1070 variant) and $1699 (GTX 1060) respectively.
