Asus Zenfone 5 finally gets Android 9 Pie update

21 December 2018 1

Asus Zenfone 5 is finally getting the taste of Android 9 Pie. The phone, launched earlier this year along with Zenfone 5 Lite and Zenfone 5Z, was a mid-budget phone that came with Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC and dual camera setup at the back.

The OTA update is not yet available, you can either wait for it to arrive or update it manually. The package carrying Android 9 Pie for the Zenfone 5 is just over 1GB in size and can be downloaded from here. To install, copy the downloaded file in a microSD card. Once the MicroSD card is placed in the phone, enter the recovery mode by pressing power and volume button together. Select “apply updates from microSD” and chose the downloaded file. The installation process may take up to 30 minutes.

Apart from the regular Android 9 Pie features, this package includes a new volume pop-up bar and a new ‘Magnifier’ feature which makes the copy-pasting easier. The latest OS may also help in improving the overall performance and improved battery life.

There is no word regarding the update for Zenfone 5 Lite yet, however, Zenfone 5Z is expected to receive the Android 9 Pie update by the end of January 2019.

Now that the Anroid 9 Pie update roll out has started rolling out for the Asus Zenfone 5, it should not be very long before you see it on Zenfone 5 Lite and the Zenfone 5Z.
