Update : December 5th, 2016

WhatsApp has edited their official blog post to announce the effect first found in the FAQs officially.

Original Post (November 15th, 2016)
A few months ago, we shared an info that WhatsApp officially disclose that by the end of 2016, their app will not be supporting BlackBerry OS running smartphones and even the latest smartphones running on BB10. Now it looks like WhatsApp team changed their plans and extended support for BB devices until June 2017. Today WhatsApp also inaugurated video call service.

The WhatsApp rolled out an update for devices running on BB10 and in FAQ section, they clearly mention in this update that support for BB10 devices is now extended for six months more. Let's have a look at WhatsApp BB10 FAQ .

WhatsApp support for mobile devices

As announced in our blog, we will soon be ending support for certain devices. On June 30, 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms:

  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60

The following platforms will no longer be supported at the beginning of 2017:

  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6

These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android running OS 2.3+, a Windows Phone 8+, or an iPhone running iOS 7+ before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.

Well, certainly the announcement from WhatsApp will make BlackBerry owners happy who are on BB10. The new update doesn't bring the changes but instead it looks like WhatsApp re-set the time bomb which was set in an earlier build and now this time bomb is set blast in June 2017.
