MWC 2018 has witnessed the rise of numerous electronics and here’s another to add to the list. Qualcomm has made a huge announcement regarding its upcoming chipsets which is geared towards mid-range devices. The company has announced its new Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform Series. This SoC will bring about major changes over the previous generation chipsets in the areas of camera, power and even overall performance. One of the highlights of the 700 chipsets is the inclusion of on-device AI supported by the AI Engine.
The new architecture of the 700 Series promises to deliver up to 2x improvements for on-device AI applications compared to the 660 SoC. The Hexagon Vector Processor, Adreno Visual Processing subsystem, and Kryo CPU function together to make processing and daily smartphone functioning seamlessly. The camera performance improvements are going to be noticeable, bringing a balance between images captured under different light settings. There’s a good chance that the Snapdragon 700 Series of chipsets will feature additional grade camera customizations.
The new series of Snapdragon Mobile chipsets promise to offer up to 30% power efficiency which will ultimately lead to better battery life. This, in turn, will lead to better overall performance. The 700 Series will also allow for fast charging as it supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology which supposedly charges extremely fast, claiming a charging speed of up to 50% charge in just 15 minutes. However, this will depend upon various conditions and how smartphone manufacturers implement this technology in their smartphones.
Last but not the least, the new Snapdragon Series will support Bluetooth 5 and ultra-fast LTE, along with carrier Wi-Fi features.
